The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a qualified candidate to perform the duties of a Junior Fund Manager. As a Junior Fund Manager, you will support contract and grant administration, assist with budget control, and communicate related University and Departmental policies and procedures to principal investigators and department administrators. You will be responsible for assisting with recommendations for cost-effective alternative methods for budgeting, assisting with the preparation, financial analysis, and compliance monitoring to produce a variety of user-friendly financial reports. You will also edit and offer writing assistance for general departmental publications, newsletters, and marketing materials specifically relating to the research activities of the department and other fund management duties as assigned by the manager and director. Target hourly rate: $22.03-$43.68
Required 1. Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and accurate manner. 2. Ability to analyze problems, assesses needs, and provides alternatives. 3. Effective oral and written communication skills necessary to make inquiries and convey information. 4. Skill in reading technical documents, such as contract and grants applications, awards synopsis, federal financial circulars, policy statements, and other materials from University departments and outside funding agencies. 5. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. 6. Ability to handle confidential material frequently while protecting its strict confidentiality. 7. Skill in using a personal computer and computer software such as Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook. 8. Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with faculty, fellows, research nurses and other Division staff, Hospital, University, Clinics in order to solve problems and expedite document processing. 9. Typing skills sufficient to prepare correspondence, memos, and financial reports with speed and accuracy. Preferred 1. Working knowledge of academic research values, priorities and expectations, familiarity with University culture, demonstrated ability to understand and apply goals of the Department, PI, grasp sophisticated and/or complex ideas and issues, discern implications of various actions. 2. Ability to provide training and review as needed in the areas of University accounting, agency regulations, departmental practices, and technical systems for other dept. staff involved in fund management/contract & grant administration (includes employees at Ad Specialist, Ad. Analyst level). 3. Bachelor’s degree with a major in business administration, economics, statistics, political science, educational administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 4. Knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to extramural funding. 5. Demonstrated knowledge of University-based research administration policies and procedures governing pre-award administration, proposal development, contracts and grant awards, subcontracts, and other areas relevant to research administration activities. 6. Skill in analyzing information, problem solving, budgets, policies and procedures to define problems and/or objectives and formulate logical solutions and conclusions.
