Job Summary

Supports the surgical team in providing safe surgical care to the surgical and obstetrics patient. Safe patient care as it relates to the ORA; includes performing pre-surgical skin preps, safely transferring patients, ordering and stocking supplies, transporting specimens, and the maintenance of an aseptic surgical environment. Will assemble case carts, provide equipment to the OR's for surgical cases, and other needs to ensure the safe care of our patients. Will cross train to manage inventory, maintain PAR levels, rotate stock to eliminate outdates, transmit charges, & order supplies. Will assist with the management of equipment and instrument purchases, repairs, & replacement. Cross trains to decontaminate and sterilize instrumentation and document quality standards. Works collaboratively with hospital radiation safety officer. Monitors radiation safety of O.R. patients and team, documents accurately and notifies radiation ! safety officer of non-compliance. Required to take call includ! ing weekends, holidays, etc.

Essential Job Functions

Patient Care assistance under the direction of the Registered Nurse

• completes surgical skin preps
• transfer patients safely
• assists with patient positioning
• provides beds, stretchers, etc. for patient transport.
• clarifies with R.N. the use of oxygen, IV's, foley catheters, or other drains to ensure safe patient transport.
• collaboratively works with Radiation Safety Officer to monitor safety levels of the OR environment following a procedure.
• crosstrains to decontaminate and sterilize surgical instrumentation.

Environmental Care & Cleaning

• completes timely and accurate room turn overs.
• always uses appropriate personal protective equipment.
• maintains a clean work environment.

Material Management responsibilities in collaboration with the O.R. Buyer

• Maintains PAR! levels, rotates stock to eliminate outdates.
• transmits charges
• Familiarity with the computer, excel spreadsheets, MSM order entry, interface with Meditech

Meditech order entry and materials management module.

• Orders supplies
• Actively supports reprocessing and recycling efforts.
• accurately picks case carts for surgical procedures, returns supplies appropriately.
• Provides equipment for surgical procedures
• assist in the purchase, repair, and replacement of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
• Communicates clearly to the team any changes for materials management decisions.

All other duties as appropriate within scope of practice as an Operating Room Aide.

• Runs errands, delivers specimens, equipment, etc.
